Green Turtle Adult

As we enter October, we at the SeaGlass Inn are keeping particularly watchful eyes on the Melbourne Beach shoreline for nesting mother sea turtles. Every year, from March to October, these amazing creatures travel miles and miles to return to our beaches, lay their eggs, and begin the next generation. Melbourne’s Beaches are major nesting areas for primarily Loggerhead Turtles, but we also get regular visits from Leatherback Turtles (the largest variety) and Green Turtles.

This month, guests in the mood for a nighttime walk on the beach might very possibly see one of these majestic mothers on her way to making her nest or, since it is later in the season, dozens of hatchlings on the run to start their lives under the sea! The SeaGlass Inn is ideally located for just such an excursion. We request, though, that all turtle watchers exercise caution and due respect for these endangered animals. Please speak to your Innkeeper about local rules and protocols. The information can also be found at www.conserveturtles.org.
